Yasmin is indicated to prevent pregnancy in women. It contains female hormones that prevent ovulation and also causes changes in cervical mucus and uterine lining, to make it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
How to use:
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage of Yasmin is one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days per menstrual cycle. Then tablets are discontinued for 7 days. It is recommended to take this medicine at the same time each day. The first pill must be taken on either the first Sunday after the onset of menstruation or on Day 1 of menstruation.
Use a nonhormonal back-up method of birth control until you have taken a tablet daily for 7 consecutive days. Before taking Yasmin make sure you are not pregnant, because it can cause birth defects. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant using this medicine of if you miss two menstrual periods in a row. You should wait at least 6 weeks before starting Yasmin if you are breast-feeding. Your doctor may prefer to prescribe a different medicine for you if you have a history of a stroke or blood clots, circulation problems (especially caused by metabolic deaseas such as diabetes), a hormone-related cancer such as breast or uterine cancer; abnormal vaginal bleeding, severe liver diseases or high blood pressure.
